Oh, fair season — the smell of corn dogs and funnel cakes fill the air, neon lights flash in every direction and the sound of joyful giggles surround you. No state does the fair quite like Texas, and this year, The Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo is celebrating their 65-year anniversary.
This year’s theme is the G.O.A.T (greatest of all time) because after 65 years, the Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo knows how to create the greatest experience for everyone. From the whirling rides to that first bite of a deep fried Oreo, everyone needs to attend the fair while it’s here!
As a college kid, I thought I had outgrown the fair.
Boy, was I wrong. There is something about good old-fashioned fair rides that bring out the kid in me.
The HOT Fair has a wide variety of rides to choose from, my personal favorites were the pirate ship and the classic Ferris wheel. The pirate ship immediately grabs your attention as it begins to rock back and forth. As the ship continues to swing higher and higher, you begin to feel as though you just might fly out of your seat. But not to worry, you are safe and secure; the feeling of your stomach dropping is only part of the experience. As for the Ferris wheel, when you hit the top, the breathtaking view of Waco is worth a trip to the fair alone!
What is the fair without fried food? At the HOT Fair, they have everything from ribbon fries to turkey legs to the classic corn dog. And what would be better to pair with those savory foods than an ice-cold lemonade or sweet tea. To top it off, you have the option of a fried Twinkie, Snickers and Oreos for dessert.
My personal favorite were the fried Oreos. They’re just the right amount of sweet, but rich. After only one, I was done. Those little guys are definitely something you can share with friends!
If fried candy, cookies and Twinkies aren’t on your personal menu, no need to worry. There are plenty of other sweet treats you can enjoy. Ice cream, snow cones and candy apples stand alone, just to name a few.
On top of all the exciting day-time attractions, the Fair also hosts concerts on the Bud Light Music Stage, a livestock show and the All American ProRodeo finals, sponsored by Pendleton Whiskey. Tickets are $10 for adults, and with that ticket you get free admission to the concerts! A pretty great deal if you ask me. This year’s Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo really is the G.O.A.T. The fair ends on October 14, so go get your tickets now at hotfair.com. It only comes around once a year and trust me, you don’t want to miss it!
