Waco’s first film festival debuted last year and had a tremendous turnout. It was a great way for filmmakers, actors, writers, movie lovers and everyone alike to come together and share their work with others. This year’s Deep in the Heart Film Festival will take place March 22-25 at the Waco Hippodrome, and there is so much to be excited about. You don’t have to be a movie guru to join the fun of this year’s festival
Here are just a few of the many events and activities taking today through Sunday:
This almost goes without saying, but obviously there will be enough films to keep you entertained all weekend! Official selections have been made, and there are over a 100 short films premiering during the festival as well as four feature films. A list and schedule of all the short films for the weekend can be found on the Deep in the Heart Film Festival website. The films are sure to cater to all audiences with genres ranging from family-friendly, horror, comedy, indie, and documentary. You name it, they have it!
If you feel like your backside has gone numb and you’re stuffed from all the popcorn, you can take a break from the films and join some of the workshops. You will have the opportunity to listen to guest speakers and attend both a filmmaker’s and university panel. Other workshops include a virtual reality analysis to discuss the relationship between virtual reality and film, and how that could look in the future.
Meeting the makers
What’s great about hosting a film festival in a smaller city is the opportunity to meet the filmmakers behind some of your favorite films of the weekend. Not only are you getting the chance to see films never before seen anywhere else in the world, but also you can chat with the actors who starred in it. And who knows, one of the directors may even be your film and digital media professor here at Baylor!
