For Halloween, I need a new costume for every party, potluck and movie night. However, my bank account has never been as big as my love for the holiday. I had to develop a system where I could have one expensive Halloween costume and two inexpensive costumes. But when you’re too busy with school and work, you don’t always have the creative energy left to go all-out on a costume. So if you need a costume before the night ends, here are ten costumes that can make anyone seem prepared and ready to take on this spooky, Halloween night.
Referee
What You Need:
- Black bottoms (shorts, skirt, or pants)
- White T-shirt and black tape (to make vertical stripes)
- Whistle
- Black baseball cap
Being a referee on Halloween is the perfect outfit for people who love calling the shots, but don’t want to go with a basic jersey costume. Plus, you get to wear a whistle. What more could one ask for?
Wednesday, The Addams Family
What You Need:
- Black dress
- Black tights
- White polo shirt
- Black lipstick
- Pigtails
I have been Wednesday Addams for Halloween so many times as a kid that I’ve lost count. Nevertheless, Wednesday Addams is still one of my favorite characters to dress up as on Halloween because she is cunning and ruthless. There is no one like Wednesday.
“She Doesn’t Even Go Here” – Damian, Mean Girls
What You Need:
- A blue jacket
- Sunglasses
- A sign
This costume is by far the easiest if you already have a blue hoodie or jacket. This is very much a no stress costume that most people will recognize while also giving you a good excuse to wear sunglasses inside.
A Bank Robber
What You Need:
- White t-shirt and black tape (to make horizontal stripes)
- Black shorts or pants
- Drawstring backpack
- Black gloves
- A beanie
If you’ve seen any classic black-and-white movies of bank robbers, you know exactly how to create this costume as you run out the door. You’re aren’t robbing any banks tonight, but a couple hearts are up for grabs.
Mickey Mouse or Minnie Mouse
What You Need:
- Mouse ears
- Red bottoms
- Black shirt
How can you go wrong with classic Disney? If you have ever been to Disneyland or Disneyworld, you already have half your outfit with those mouse ears.
“Risky Business”
What You Need:
- An oversized white button-down collared shirt
- White socks
- Slider shorts
If you are feeling “risky” tonight, then this costume is for you. You may be twinning with someone, but who cares? It’s all about the risk.
A Rockstar
What You Need:
- Band T-shirt
- Black jeans or leggings
- Face paint (make a star, triangle or any shape you want on your face)
If I could sing, I would bring the house down but since I can’t this costume is my next best thing. You can embody your favorite rockstar like Mick Jagger or Jimi Hendrix for the night. Rock ‘n roll out the door to your Halloween night.
Minion, Despicable Me
What You Need:
- Yellow shirt
- Blue overalls
- Black gloves
- Black boots
If you are looking for a kid-friendly costume that consists of things you probably already have in your closet, then this minion costume is for you. Did somebody say “ba-na-na?”
Red Riding Hood
What You Need:
- Red cape
- Red lipstick
- Red or black dress
- A basket
If it gets a little too chilly while you visit your grandmother, this cape will keep you warm. No one will have trouble recognizing your costume but beware of the Big Bad Wolf.
Black Cat
What You Need:
- Black Clothes
- Black face paint (whiskers and a nose)
- Cat ears
Some say black cats are bad luck. Some say they are good luck. I say they are the classic Halloween costume. So simple, it will have you purring.
